We all know how dangerous breast cancer is for women, but do men know how dangerous prostate cancer is? Let us discuss it in details.

Prostate surgery- cure

Every cancer specialist says, “ The earlier you know about cancer, the better it is.” If cancer hasn’t spread yet, the surgery can help. This type of cancer has become quite common, and you need to get it cured on time to avoid severe consequences.

How to detect prostate cancer?

When an individual is above 50 years, it becomes mandatory to get tested for prostate cancer. Screening is the first step in getting detected prostate cancer at an earlier age, and the first step in the screening is the digital rectal examination.

A gloved and lubricated finger is inserted by the physician in the rectum so that cancer can be examined by checking any abnormalities in the shape, size, or texture of the prostate. If there are any abnormalities present, then the physician suggests other tests so that the signs of prostate cancer can be detected.

The other method of detecting it is the PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) level.  This test requires nothing much, but the physicians can check a simple blood test and the PSA level. If the test results show a high level of PSA, then your physician asks for the next investigation as it can be a sign of cancer or prostate enlargement.

If you get these two tests, then it’s enough to know if you are going through prostate cancer or not. These tests are also helpful to know cancer in the early stages.

Types of surgeries

There are three surgeries that the doctors mostly prefer:

  • Radical Prostatectomy
  • Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).
  • Pelvic lymphadenectomy.

Radical prostatectomy

This surgery involves removing the prostate gland from the body and the tissues affected by it.  It is performed on a healthy person.

There are different types of radical prostatectomy:

  1. Retropubic prostatectomy involves making a cut in the abdomen and removing the prostate gland.
  2. Perineal prostatectomy: In this, the prostate gland is removed through a cut between the anus and testicles, along with it other infected tissues see, also removed.
  3. Laparoscopic prostatectomy: This is done by hand with the help of a camera by making multiple cuts on the patient’s abdomen.
  4. Robotic prostatectomy: It is a Laparoscopic prostatectomy done by a robotic arm controlled by the surgeon.

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).

This process is used when cancer has spread in the prostate gland. It can’t cure cancer, but it helps in effortless urination.

It involves putting a thin metal tube in the penis and inserting a wire loop inside to remove certain parts of the prostate gland, normalizing the urethra.

Pelvic lymphadenectomy

It is a pre-surgery done before the radical prostatectomy to provide the need for further treatment. It involves removing the lymph nodes and sending them for testing if they contain cancer or not. Radical prostatectomy may not be the best treatment if they contain cancer.

Side effects of surgery

These surgeries often leave side effects as their watermark. It includes problems while urinating, such as pain, bleeding, or both. Erectile dysfunction is also joint after prostate cancer surgery. During the process, some other organs might also get damaged.

Prevention

The genital cause is also one of the most common causes of prostate cancer. This for the generations, prevention is necessary. Eating a diet full of fruits and vegetables with regular exercise and consultation from a Prostate Cancer Surgeon Near Me can reduce the chances of prostate cancer significantly.
