2. Schwimmer is best known for her work with elephants, which began in the late 1920s. During her lifetime, she worked with over two hundred elephants in Africa and India.
3. In 1999, she was awarded the prestigious Goldman Environmental Prize for her work protecting African wild elephants and their habitats. Schwimmer passed away on July 21, 2002, at the age of ninety-two.
