Draya Michele is an American singer and actress. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to musicians Lisa and Gerald Michele. She has two sisters, Jill and Kelly, and a brother, Michael. Michele started playing the violin at age six and began singing at eight. In high school, she formed a band with her friends called Secret Sauce. After graduating from high school in 2006, Michele attended Pennsylvania State University for a year before dropping out to pursue a career in music. She then moved to New York City and started working as a backup vocalist for artists such as Nicholas Petricca and Joshua Radin.

Michele’s big break came when she was featured on Lil Wayne’s song “Lollipop” in 2011. The song charted within the top five of the US Billboard Hot 100 and helped Michele win the BET Award for Best Female Artist in 2013.
