The show won five Tony Awards, including Best Production and Best Featured Actress ( Nichols ), and helped Nichols to win a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. How did Eboni Nichols become a Hollywood actress?

Eboni Nichols was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 21, 1977. Nichols grew up playing both the violin and the clarinet. When she was just a teenager, she won a role in the Fox Musical series Street Time.
Nichols’ television career soon took off when she landed the role of CeeCee Washington in Dreamgirls (1995), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Since then, Nichols has appeared in a number of popular films, including Spawn (1997), Precious (2009), and Life As We Know It (2010). In addition to movies, Nichols has also appeared on Broadway in the revue Legally Blonde: The Musical (2007-2008) and in the Broadway production of Rent (2005). Currently, Nichols is starring opposite Taraji P. Henson in the new ABC series Black-ish.
