Lentils are cultivated for pulses. Lentils have an important place among all vibrations, also called red lentils. In India, lentils are produced along with Rabi crops. It can be easily cultivated even in irrigated areas because its plants tolerate drought, moisture and low temperature. Apart from eating lentils as pulses, they are also used for making snacks and sweets. It is a pulse crop. Due to its lumpy roots, microorganisms are present in these roots, which increase the amount of nitrogen in the soil, due to which land fertility also increases. Farmer brothers also earn more profit by cultivating lentils commercially.

Land & Climate Requirements

Lentil cultivation requires heavy loamy soil with moist protection. Do not cultivate lentils in alkaline and light soils because more irrigation is needed in such soils. Apart from this, there should be a proper drainage system in the field and the P.H. of the land. The value is between 6.5 and 7. Lentils are cultivated along with Rabi crops. During this, there is a cold season. In a cold climate, plant development is good.

Field Preparation

Before growing a lentil crop, the field should be prepared appropriately. First of all, clean the farm and get it deep ploughed adequately. After that, leave the field open like this. Then water is applied to the area and left to dry. After this, two to three slant ploughing of the field is done using a rotavator. The soil of the field becomes friable due to slanting ploughing. After this, the area is levelled by applying a pat. Finally, the sowing of seeds is done in a flat lot only. For better field preparation farmers choose Swaraj Tractor 744 tractor model which is efficient and economical in price.

Manure & Fertilisers

To get a good yield of lentils, it is also necessary to give a proper amount of fertilisers. On the other hand, in unirrigated places, give 30 kg of phosphorus, 15 kg of nitrogen, 10 kg of sulphur and 10 kg of potash at the time of sowing in the field per hectare. Apart from this, if zinc sulphate deficiency is found in the land, spray 25 kg zinc sulphate per hectare in the area and other fertilisers.

Sowing Method

The quantity of lentil seeds depends on the time of sowing done. If you sow improved varieties on time, then you need 30 to 35 kg of seeds per hectare, and for late sowing, 50 to 60 kg of seeds are required per hectare of field. Before planting these seeds in the area, treat them with an appropriate amount of thiram or Bavistin. After this, phosphorous bacteria PSB culture 10 gm and Rhizobium culture 5 gm are treated at the rate of 1 kg seed. These treated seeds are adequately dried in a shady place and are sown.

Irrigation

Lentil plants have the power to tolerate drought. Hence they do not require much irrigation. For the crop grown in irrigated areas, only 1 to 2 irrigations are required. Its first irrigation is done 40 to 45 days after transplanting after branching, and the second irrigation is done about 70 to 75 days after sowing during the grain formation in the pods. During this, take special care of the water in the field, so the water does not collect. Use a sprinkling method for irrigation. Apart from this, irrigation can also be done by making stripes. Do not give much water to its plants at all, and there must be drainage in the field. Moreover, Swaraj 717 is the best tractor model for farmers. Because it comes in a nominal price range.

Weed Control

It is essential to protect lentil plants from weeds. The yield is affected more if weed control is not done in time. Apart from this, you should spray the appropriate amount of Pendimethalin 30 E.C. immediately after planting the seeds.

Harvesting

Lentil plants start yielding 110 to 140 days after sowing the seeds. Harvesting of its crop is done between February to March. When the flowers on its plants turn yellow, and the pods turn brown, harvest the plants during that time.
