Narvel Blackstock was born on January 9th, 1968 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Narvel’s father Mr. Narvel Leroy Blackstock was a bus driver and his mother worked as a cashier. At the age of four, Narvel moved with his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Narvel attended George Washington High School in Philadelphia and played football and basketball.
Narvel Blackstock played football at Brown University from 1985-1987. After completing his collegiate career at Brown, Narvel joined the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 1989. In 1990, he was signed by the Miami Dolphins but spent most of the 1990 season on injuring reserve. The next year, he signed with the Chicago Bears and became their starting tight end.
In 1995, Narvel Blackstock left the NFL and signed with the Canadian Football League’s Edmonton Eskimos. He spent six seasons with Edmonton where he helped them win two Grey Cups (the Canadian equivalent of the Super Bowl).
